Glitter Graphics - GlitterLive.com At Rainbow Bridge!!!! RAINBOW BRIDGE There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth It is called Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. Just this side of Rainbow Bridge is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys, all of it is covered with lush green grass for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill or old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; her eager body quivers. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. You have been spotted,and when you and your special friend meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be separated again. The happy kisses rain upon your face;your hands again caress her beloved head, and you look once more into her trusting eyes so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. I am a red smooth Mini Dachshund. My birthdate is November 14, 2001. My Family adopted me on February 3, 2002. Unfortunately,I am no longer on earth. I am at Rainbow Bridge since May 29, 2007. I miss my family very, very much. :( From the moment I laid eyes on Ramona, I loved her. I was never a "dog person" but Ramona taught me alot. She was with us for 5 memorable years.Pain and suffering due to back problems sent Ramona to Rainbow Bridge way too soon on May 29, 2007. My heart still aches for her.We all have special places in our hearts for her. Ramona was 31/2 yrs. old when she just would not walk, stand for more than 30 seconds, jump, etc. When we took her to the vet, he said she had some sort of problem with her back. I can't remember his exact terms. We crated her and gave her Rimadyl for pain and lots of TLC for 2to3 weeks. She was back to herself, When she was confined, she was not allowed to jump up or down on furniture, walk up or down steps, or sit up and beg. These things are not healthy for some Dachshunds. Ramona, unfortunately, did all these things. It was a never ending battle to get her to stop. She would run and jump from sofa to loveseat to chair. It's like she was entertaining us. It was so sweet to watch her at the time. She was the perfect house dog. we never crated her when we left and we think this may have been alot of her problem. If she ran and jumped like she did with us at home, there's no telling what she did when we were gone. THIS IS THE DIFFICULT PART...... The Sunday before Memorial Day this past May,Ramona was doing her usual sulking on the back of the sofa. She just kept looking out the window waiting for "Daddy" to come home. She heard the motorcycle, looked at me with ears up, and jumped from the back of the sofa to the floor. She didn't even touch the cushions she was so excited. I knew then something was wrong. She could not move her left hind leg. It just went limp behind her. We thought at first she may have sprained it. We crated her and watched over her, but the next day she couldn't move her other leg. She did not even know when she had pottied. We took her to the emergency vet in our area.(she had been there before for unrelated incidents) They did a thorough exam and came back with two options.......surgery with 10% chance full recovery(destined to paralysis and a life time of urinary/bowel problems) or the "E" word. We were not up to either one. Ramona was my daughter's dog but she was with me 24/7 while my daughter atended school and college. I loved her dearly, but it was not my decision to make. I wanted her to have the surgery but my daughter and husband said Ramona would just suffer too much. We took Ramona to her own vet the next day and after another exam he confirmed what the other Dr. said. I fell apart and ran to my car. A few minutes later my Daughter came out and said "MOMMA, I'VE MADE MY DECISION. DO YOU WANT TO COME IN AND SAY GOOD-BYE." I wanted to die with her at that time. I went in and kissed her, held her, and told her I will always love her. She did not know what was happening. The Dr. gave her a sedative first to calm her.(he was even in tears. he had seen her for 5 years.) After a few minutes he came in and gave her the final injection. My daughter and I both lost it! I stayed in the room for a few minutes and then left her alone with Ramona. She took it really bad. This was her first pet of her very own and she loved her soooo much. It was hard to see my daughter hurt so bad. After about an hour the Dr. came to talk to us. My daughter decided she wanted Ramona cremated and wanted her cremains and we left, I was not myself for days, I missed her so much. Ramona entered into her final sleep on May 29. 2007. She is now at Rainbowbridge,happy and healthy and waiting for us. Well after about 3weeks we had not received Ramona"s cremains. I called the vet. Come to find out the correct paperwork was not filed and our baby was not returned to us. This set off another episode of emotions. To sum up: Do not allow jumping up and down on furniture.Use portable ramps and train dog to use them Limit going up and down stairs. Carry them. Like I said, this may not be true for some Dachshunds, but just be cautious. We have a 6yr old male that hasn't been affected by any of the problems that Ramona had. He is from a totally different breeder. He runs like a bullet, jumps, flips and everything.I still worry about him though . ****Dachshund Serenity Prayer**** God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change- Courage to change the things I can- And the wisdom to know the difference... Plus the Dachshund Determination to deal with it all !
